WHAT IS YOUR VOCATION?
Is it I Lord? What do You want of me?
Could it be you?
Are you being called to be a Priest or to take up Religious life?
Seek more information from the Southwark Diocese..
Link to... Vocations
The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28)
Southwark have developed “Discovering Priesthood Days” as a chance for those under 18 to learn more about the life and work of a priest and to meet others who have faced the question of a vocation to the Priesthood. The days are held in different parts of the diocese and Southwark is always very grateful to the hosts.
Southwark invites young men between 14 & 18 years of age to join them at a
‘Discovering Priesthood Day’.
These days offer young people a chance to meet priests and bishops from around the diocese and to learn more about the life and ministry of a diocesan priest.

For Whom Do You Call?
Jesus Lord through Peter, established was Your Church.
For truly You are the Saviour, for whom the world did search.
But Lord we are in need, for who can minister to all?
For Priests and Religious in Orders, slowly their numbers fall.
Lord please send vocations, calling many to Your side.
For this Your Faithful is praying, that this will be heard world-wide.
May those Lord You are choosing, accept from You comes this plea..
“Wake up... ‘tis I the Lord,.. so rise up... and follow Me!
Amen

Street Pastors
There will be a meeting on
Thursday 9th September 2010 @7.30pm
concerning the Safer Bromley Partnership
Street Pastors play a significant role in keeping the borough of Bromley safe.
I will be attending this meeting and am inviting any parishioners who might be interested in supporting Street Pastors, either as volunteer pastors or as prayer partners, to attend also.
The official invitation will be sent later, at which time I will send details of the venue etc. It is then that I will need confirmation of those who wish to attend. Cecilia.
The role is not about preaching heaven and hell, but one of listening, caring and helping
-
working in an unconditional way.
Interested in becoming a Street Pastor?
Catholics are to be found as Street Pastors in many areas, including Bromley, though as yet there are none in Orpington.
Parishioners from Holy Innocents' are very welcome to join their ranks.

Southwark Youth to Broadcast during Papal Visit
A new internet radio station fronted by Catholic young people has been launched. It is to cover the events of the papal visit and hopes to go on permanent transmission at the end of this year.
The project is the brainchild of Gerry Coates, the Catholic songwriter, who will be travelling to Rome this summer with pupils from St Anselm's School, Canterbury, and hopes to arrange an interview with the Holy Father during the visit.
Archbishop Kevin encouraged the idea and a project committee was formed, which includes Bishop Paul, Maureen Todd (Southwark Schools Commission), John Toryusen (Director of the Southwark Catholic Youth Service), Louise Perry (School Chaplain).
Steve Hall (School Media Director) and Gerry Coates, the project manager.
The majority of the schools involved are in the Southwark diocese.

The Catholic Church is convinced that she must do all in her power to prepare the way of the Lord and to make straight his paths (Mt 3:3); and she understands that this must be done in company with other Christians
– in fraternal dialogue, in cooperation and in prayer.

The Holy Father's visit to Britain
The theme for Pope Benedict XVI's 2010 visit to the UK is
Cor ad cor loquitur -
*** Heart speaks unto Heart.***
Cardinal John Henry Newman chose the words as the motto to go on his coat of arms.
Heart speaks unto heart is a fitting choice for this papal visit as, on the final day of his Apostolic Journey, the Holy Father will beatify Cardinal Newman - the much-loved Victorian theologian."The Visit of Pope Benedict" booklet gives as much background information as possible about the Pope’s four-day visit from 16th to 19th September and its significance to the Catholic Community

Papal Visit Prayer Book is distributed to parishes
A million copies of the Handbook for the Papal Visit will be distributed to the parishes of England, Scotland and Wales over the coming weekends.
It will be invaluable not only to those who will be attending a Papal Mass or the Hyde Park Vigil (who are asked to make sure they take a copy), but also to everyone who will be following the visit on the television, radio or internet.
Although there are not sufficient copies for everyone, there are enough for one per family or household.
It is freely available, but a donation to defray the publication costs would be welcome. £2 per copy is suggested.
The Prayer Book contains:
- the texts for the Papal liturgies
- short articles explaining the background and context of the visit
- suggestions for community celebrations in preparation for the visit
- a short form of morning and evening prayer.
