HOLY INNOCENTS' PARISH COMMUNITY SUPPORT

The Bereavement Support Group would like to extend their ministry to the wider parish community who may be coming to terms with the loss of a loved one.
Whilst we are not counsellors, we offer our time and support and a willingness to listen. If you feel you would like to join us for an hour you will be warmly welcomed.
Our next meeting is on Friday 27th January at 10.45am in Room 1.      
We hope to offer this opportunity on a regular basis

Bereavement

Sooner or later every one of us suffers a bereavement.
Whether it is a close family member, or a dear friend.
None of us know to what degree we will react until it happens to us.
When we have loved someone dearly, the pain of loss can be devastating,
and it is hard to share thoughts with those of our family or friends who are also grieving.
Within Holy Innocents' parish is a bereavement group, which offers support by extending a hand of friendship and a listening ear in complete confidence to those who are bereaved.

REACH
Shedding Light on Single Life

The REACH team at Holy Innocents’ has been active for over a year with the aim of fostering a culture of vocations. Having organised many activities that focused on vocation to the priestly, religious and married lives, we would like to initiate a discussion on vocation to the single life. The main purpose of exploring this is to help improve our understanding of single living especially looking at it as a response to God’s call. It is hoped that this engagement will enable us value the many unique gifts that single people bring to our community. We also hope that as a community we will be more aware of the challenges single people face and this will enable us support them as they live out their vocation.

We need people to own/ buy a horse at £5 a horse for the races, and to come as well.

COMMUNITY LIFE AT HOLY INNOCENTS'

........PLANNED EVENTS........

Coming Together in Prayer will recommence on Saturday 4th February at 11am in Unity Chapel. Details of the dates will be in “This Week’s Diary”.

Healing Mass In the wake of the follow up meeting on the Life in the Spirit seminars held in November 2011, Healing Masses are being re-introduced on a monthly basis, commencing on 6th February and continuing on the first Monday of every month except August, although June will be celebrated on the second week due to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Prayer & Praise is from 7.30pm with Mass at 8pm.
The first Mass will be celebrated by Fr. William Keogh, Parish Priest of English Martyrs, Strood.

World Day of the Sick on Saturday 11th February at 11am we are inviting all the housebound for the celebration of the sacrament of the sick, followed by tea and coffee in St. Joseph's hall. We are asking for volunteers for taxi service. Please sign up on the appropriate clipboard at the back of the church. We will provide details of names and addresses nearer the time.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Event is back!
On February 21st from 6.30 to 8pm come and enjoy delicious pancakes with fellow parishioners, served up by Father Victor in
St Joseph's Hall. Bring your family, your neighbours, and your appetite; 'Reach' will provide the rest!
Proceeds from voluntary donations on the night will go to the New Parish Complex Fund.
No tickets, but please put your name, plus how many others are probably coming with you, on the list in the porch so that we can cater correctly for the multitude.

On Tuesday of Holy Week, 3rd April, there will be at 8pm a meditation followed by the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. PLEASE PUT THESE DATES IN YOUR DIARY; FR. VICTOR IS EXPECTING AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE – DO NOT DISAPPOINT HIM!!!.

Apostleship of the Sea (AOS)is a frontline service for the care of seafarers visiting British shores

AOS provide practical and pastoral care to all seafarers.
Its port chaplains and volunteer ship visitors welcome seafarers, offer welfare services and advice, practical help, care and friendship, according to its guiding principles of Mission, Solidarity, Welfare and Hospitality. Apostleship of the Sea in the UK is part of an international network known to the maritime world as Stella Maris.

90% of world trade is transported by ship. However the life of a modern seafarer can be dangerous and lonely. They may spend up to a year at a time away from home, separated from their family and loved ones and often working in harsh conditions.

Apostleship of the Sea relies wholly on voluntary contributions. We are only able to continue our work through the generous donations of our supporters and volunteers.

Apostleship of the Sea would like to express it's deepest sympathies for the family and friends of those who were lost on The Concordia. We are praying for all those involved in this terrible accident. Our chaplains in the UK are on hand to help those who have been affected in any way and AoS Italy are currently directly on the scene assisting the relief effort.

One of our AoS cruise chaplains was onboard the ship at the time of the disaster and we are thankful that he was one of the lucky ones and is safe and sound. You can read more about his efforts to help the passengers and crew onboard the ship on our 'What's Been Happening' page.

Last week the Obama administration announced that church-affiliated organizations will now be required — under the new employer insurance plans — to provide free non-medical contraception, abortifacients, and sterilization for all their employees.

The bishops are up in arms. So far 116 American bishops have expressed themselves publicly on the matter. The language is strong.

"The Obama administration has just told the Catholics of the United States, to Hell with your religious beliefs, to Hell with your religious liberty, to Hell with your freedom of conscience," writes Bishop David A. Zubik of Pittsburgh.

"The Catholic Church defends religious liberty, including freedom of conscience, for everyone. The Amish do not carry health insurance. The government respects their principles. Christian Scientists want to heal by prayer alone, and the new health-care reform law respects that. Quakers and others object to killing even in wartime, and the government respects that principle for conscientious objectors. By its decision, the Obama administration has failed to show the same respect for the consciences of Catholics and others who object to treating pregnancy as a disease", writes the president of the USCCB, Timothy Dolan. Obama has fired a shot that is unambiguous. Amazingly, the move is almost certainly illegal. See here and here.

Washington DC, February 3 (C-FAM) A widely publicized report in The Lancet medical journal calling for the legalization of abortion contained inflated numbers, flawed data collection and highly misleading language.

The recent article on Induced Abortion: incidence and trends worldwide from 1995 to 2008 updates abortion estimates to show progress on improving maternal health. The Alan Guttmacher Institute and staffers with the World Health Organization claim the number of unsafe abortions per 1,000 women has risen from 44% to 49% between 1995 and 2008 while the global abortion rate has declined from 29 to 28 abortions per 1,000 women of childbearing age. Unsafe abortions are concentrated in developing countries. Read More

Population Control and Reproductive Rights Activists Sidelined in Rio+20 Debate

New York, February 3 (C-FAM) In preparation for what is arguably the most influential intergovernmental conference on sustainable development internationally, representatives from member states, UN agencies and civil society concluded three days of heated discussion over the most recent draft of a document that will serve as the guide for sustainable development practices globally. As it stands, the document makes no reference to population control or reproductive rights as necessary components of sustainable development globally. The document will be finalized at the UN conference on sustainable development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this June (Rio +20).

The absence of references to population control and reproductive rights led UN agencies like the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and advocacy groups like the International Womens Health Coalition (IWHC) to make strong interventions proposing their inclusion in forthcoming drafts.
