Holy Innocents - Life in the Holy Spirit

Parish Groups: Life in the Holy Spirit

Jesus said "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth." John 14:16

St Paul ...1 Corinthians 3:16
"Don't you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?"

"The Holy Spirit present in me through my Baptism and Confirmation, would bring me the power I needed to live an active and effective Christian life - but He needed my co-operation. Without it, the effects of the grace received were bound to be limited. Until I understood this, and allowed the Spirit freedom to work in and through me, it was always going to be an uphill struggle - one which I had very little chance of winning."
Charles Whitehead (Knight of St Gregory)

The Holy Innocents' Life in the Spirit Group seeks to deepen individual faith and spiritual growth.

WHY SEEK THE GIFTS & FRUITS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Jesus loves us and wants us to have a closer relationship with Him and He promised the Holy Spirit would come to us.
Indeed we received the Holy Spirit at our Baptism and Confirmation.
But we have to be open and welcome the Spirit in or the gifts will not be manifested.

What does it mean, to be filled by the Holy Spirit?
For some people, such a term only applies to Saints long ago,
like St. Peter, St.Ignatius or St. Jerome.
However, the term is for everybody who is baptised into the Holy Spirit, not just famous people of years ago.
The Spirit of God is necessary for anybody who comes to Christ,
however the continual filling of the Spirit is not a given.
To live the Spirit filled life requires something on our part,
it is not automatic.

Sharing in the Spirit 2012

The “Life in the Spirit” seminars last year provided an opportunity for everyone to come together in small groups for discussion and sharing. Many people found this an enjoyable and helpful experience and have expressed a wish to meet together again. You are invited to come along on Tuesday evenings from 17th April to 22nd May 2012 for a time of sharing in an informal atmosphere. Our focus will be the Sunday Gospels of Eastertide and preparation for the coming celebration of Pentecost. Each evening will begin in the church at 7.30pm with a time of prayer and praises together. We will then divide into groups for sharing and aim to finish by 9pm.

Catholic Faith Exploration (CaFE)
It was explained that this was a set of DVDs for catechesis. Stephen Walsh said he had used the CaFE DVDs with a group to study the creed. They began the evening with a meal, then watched the DVD and completed the evening with a discussion.
Samples of the DVDs could be viewed at Catholic Faith Exploration (CaFE)
It was noted that a set of DVDs cost around £90 and it was suggested that, if purchased, the DVDs could be passed around the different seminar groups to gain the full benefit of the investment.
