The Catenian Association was founded in 1908 at the instigation of Louis
Casartelli,
Bishop of Salford, and the Association celebrated its Centenary
in 2008. There are over 10,000 members attached to more than 300 Circles and
Groups in the UK, Africa, Australia, Ireland and Malta with active plans for
further development.
The Catenians provide a social network for Catholic laymen and their families and offer support to its members in times of difficulty or need with ongoing concern for deceased members' widows and dependants. All Circles hold monthly meetings.
Our Circle is the Chislehurst and Orpington Circle No 207, and we hold our meetings in the Holy Ghost Fathers Hall in Woodlands Road, Bickley, on the first Tuesday evening in the month, when any matters appropriate to the running of the Circle, its members and its programme for social events etc are discussed. This is followed by light refreshments.
Wives (who do not need to be Catholic) and families are fully involved in social events as appropriate.
Many long lasting friendships are made through the Association. The Catenian Association is not involved in Catholic Action but many of its members are active in Parish work and it can sometimes help young Catholics through its Bursary fund.
Membership is available to practising Catholic laymen after they have been invited by our Circle President to attend a number of our Circle meetings at the Holy Ghost Fathers Hall, when they will meet members of the Circle. They can then decide if they would be interested in applying for membership.
