Holy Innocents’ Parish Church Library Rules 2011
- Adult members of the Parish Church can borrow ONE BOOK for ONE MONTH, and borrow or return one book on behalf of a Parishioner who is unable to visit the Library.
- When you borrow from the Library you undertake to follow these rules and to adhere to the confidentiality of personal data found in the BOOK ISSUES FILE.
- Please return your book before borrowing another.
- Books marked FOR REFERENCE are only for use in the Library. They are Directories or irreplaceable out-of-print multi-volume works like Butler’s Lives of The Saints.
To Borrow:If you do not object to leaving your written telephone number or email address in the BOOK ISSUES FILE kept on the Library desk, write:
DATE BOOK NUMBER FULL NAME TEL.NUMBER/EMAIL,e.g.:
1/7/10 1.1 Jill Bloggs 01689-000000
6/12/10 18.1 Gina Della Chiesa gdellachiesa@ntlworld.com
This data is used only to recall any unreturned book. We ask you not to use it or pass it
on to others without the permission of the borrower in order to safeguard the confidentiality of that data (Data Protection Act 1988). If you have misgivings to leaving personal details in the BOOK ISSUES FILE located on the Library desk, write those details needed on a card or paper provided in a tray on the coffee table and drop the card in the slot of a ‘ballot-box’ near it.
- When Borrowing: Take a card from a tray called BOOK CARDS on the coffee table in the Library and place the card between the books in place of the book you have borrowed, leaving one end sticking out. When returning your book, trace the coloured label and book number on the shelf, place the returned book back where it belongs, retrieve the BOOK CARD and place it back in the tray.
- Returning Books: If you cannot reach the shelves do not strain to reach or climb on a stool or chair, but leave your book in a box on the floor labelled RETURNED BOOKS. The Librarian will place it back on the shelves. If you used the BOOK ISSUES file to borrow the book, remember to CROSS OUT YOUR BORROWING ENTRY with a line through it, without making it illegible, so that we can monitor book use. If you used the ‘ballot box’ to record your borrowing, all you need to do when returning a book is to take a card or paper from a tray left on the coffee table, write down the BOOK NUMBER and YOUR NAME, and write RETURNED next to them, dropping the card or paper in the ‘ballot-box’ slot without folding it.
- Subject Catalogue: There is an alphabetical subject index on the wall inside the Library with a copy of it in the Catalogue File on the desk. The Catalogue File also contains a classified subject index. The classification has been specially made for the Library with colour coding for each section, for example: red label for biographies.
- A Great Asset: We hope that the self-service system set up is to your liking, and appreciate your comments on how we can improve it - a Suggestions File is available on the Library desk. We believe that this is a great improvement on the past when the Library was a fire-exit hazard placed in a narrow badly-lit corridor on shelves too low to access comfortably, and without any order! The Library is a wonderful asset and covers a vast array of religious subjects, which will be expanded further with a donation of a large collection of copyright-free internet downloads. Donations are always welcome. We trust that you will make good use of it. Happy browsing!
